Experimental Research on Effects of Dieting on Barley and Rice on Health of Organism(1)


Abstract
In our country, the boiled barley is recently advised positively in order to put the diabetic on diet, while in the staple food of the normal people, the boiled barley is refused, anti-consequently the barley is forced in reality out of the position of principal food and is degraded now to a place of despised one.
Taking into consideration of such situation and in order to find a ground for improving the national food situation and advising it to the diabetics as diabetic diet, this writer, conducted an experiment in which the male ICR mice of 3 week-age were dieted on the boiled barley and rice for 51 weeks, and obtained there from the following results:
1. The barley group showed an increase in the growing weight by 15.5% on the average compared with the rice group;
2. During the laboratory observation through 54 weeks, the death rate of the control .and barley group was 20¡Æ0 respectively, while that of rice group, 40%;
3. In order to improve the national physical strength, therefore, the boiled rice preference should be modified, while the boiled rice mixed barley should be promoted positively.
In advising earnestly the diabetics to diet on the mixed food, there remains still a problem on the glycemic, but it is considered worth to encourage.
